Community Participants Program

We are internationally recognized as having changed the way in which we care for the dying. With a foundation in Buddhist teachings, ZHP shares its unique model with a broader audience as a means to foster more transformative approaches to end-of-life care. All of our public education programs emphasize the role of wisdom and compassion in the field of end-of-life care. These include:

Workshops & Retreats: These events are designed to assist people who are facing life threatening illness, as well as their family and friends, in a manner which best meets what they understand to be their physical, emotional, and spiritual needs. Through contemplative spiritual practices, experiential exercises, and an atmosphere of respect and caring, participants explore the death and dying as a possibility for healing and transformation. For specific information and a schedule, see our Events page.

End-of-life care planning: Living Wills & Advance Directives
Recent events in the news have heightened people’s awareness of the necessity for living wills and advance directives. We believe that every person is entitled to having their wishes followed at the end of life. The best way to ensure this is having the proper documents filled out and distributed to family, friends and health care providers. Zen Hospice Project can provide you with documents, and help you fill them out. We can do this for individuals, families and small groups. Please contact our Public Education Director, Jennifer Block, to make arrangements. To purchase the documents,

Public Presentations: ZHP provides presentations for regional and national events, such as palliative care conferences and hospice organizations, and consulting services to healthcare institutions and communities. We also offer talks to local groups about our work. These are designed to meet the specific needs of a given healthcare institution, organization or community. We are happy to present at conferences when possible. Please contact our Public Education Director, Jennifer Block, to make arrangements. Ideally, programs should be booked several months in advance.

Consultation Services are available on a range of healthcare and care-giving issues including the development of volunteer training programs, the delivery of hospice services, and the establishment of hospice residential settings. These are individually designed to meet the specific needs of a given healthcare institution, organization, or community. Ideally, our consultation should be booked several months in advance. For more information, contact our Public Education Director, Jennifer Block.

Trainings for clinicians & end-of-life care professionals
Zen Hospice Project is deeply committed to improving systems of care and the deeper values and assumptions that support them. In response to an ongoing need for knowledgeable clinicians who are skilled in both the practical and spiritual aspects of dying, our professional training programs feature an experience of transformative learning that deepens clinicians’ capacity to provide effective and compassionate care to their dying patients. For a schedule, see our
Events calendar. We also offer individually designed trainings designed to meet the specific needs of a given healthcare institution, organization, or community. Ideally, programs should be booked several months in advance. For more information, contact our Public Education Director, Jennifer Block.
