WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION
Contemplation of the degeneration of our body and mind, and finally death, is an important ancient spiritual practice that is included in every spiritual tradition. Although thinking ahead to our death may be challenging, it can actually ease the suffering associated with the attachments, anxieties and aversions of the thinking mind. By learning how to practice mindfulness of death, we can open to a vivid sense of our present life and greater happiness.
The Buddhist tradition has a wealth of teachings that address the innate human desire to escape the reality of change and death and the ultimately unsatisfactory pursuits of wealth, power, security, etc. With dedicated spiritual effort, we can develop insight into the transitory nature of ourselves and everything around us and then experience a liberation from our powerful mental concerns. This can open us to peace and appreciation for the present moment that is before us.
This workshop include a variety of Buddhist teachings and spiritual guidance for contemplating death, including guided meditation, learning exercises, and group discussion. We will also explore the profound spiritual opportunities that being with others who are dying can offer us. This workshop is suitable for adults of all ages.
