If you want to know if it really is lonely at the top, you'll have to ask our Special Guest Arlene Blum. Arlene has climbed Annapurna - in fact, she made history as a part of that mountain's first all-woman ascent team and first successful American ascent. She also was a deputy leader of the first all-woman ascent of Mount McKinley and was the first woman to attempt to ascend Mount Everest. Knowing this penchant for going where no woman has gone before, her background might surprise you - she was raised by Orthodox Jewish parents in the very un-mountained city of Chicago and then went on to get a Ph.D. in biophysical chemistry. After graduate school, she embarked on a year's journey of climbing peaks all over the world - a trip she named "the endless winter." Dinner will be served atop Russian Hill at Frascati, a Mediterranean bistro with old world charm and hospitality, as well as inventive, comforting food. The folks at Frascati always treat you like one of the family!
