Artist in Residence Program
We’re excited about our recently launched Artist in Residence Program (AIR), which may very well be the first at any hospice organization in the country. Through the AIR program, we will invite creative professionals from various disciplines to spend time with us each year, during which they will contemplate end-of-life issues, experience our model of care and work alongside us to serve our residents and families. Using these experiences as creative content, artists will develop their craft in ways that connect and support our mission and work by producing innovative and thought-provoking works of art that capture the specialness of Zen Hospice. Ultimately, our goals for this program are to improve our patient care and help us share our unique model with other audiences in interesting and engaging ways.
We are please to announce that Wendy MacNaughton is our 2015 Artist in Residence. As an artist, illustrator, and graphic journalist, Wendy's work has appeared nationally including The New York Times, NPR, Juxtapoz, Time Out NY, and 7X7 Magazine. Please check out Wendy's website to learn more about her insightful yet witty perspective on life.
We also offer a big thanks to Josh Kornbluth for pioneering the Artist in Residence program with us. The capstone to Josh's 2014 residency was an original performance at One Night One Heart in October, which was met with rave reviews. His unique storytelling captured the poignant, humorous, and very human expression of our caregiving. In fact, Josh loved his work at Zen Hospice so much that he completed the full Volunteer Caregiving training in November and continues his service as a Guest House Volunteer Caregiver.
